In the first issue of OMAC, we met Buddy Blank, a man in the future. He worked in a factory that created artificial lovers for lonely men and women. This masterwork arose purely from the vivid imagination of Jack Kirby… Or did it?!
All the Kirby biographers and OMAC experts fail to mention this short story from EC Comics: Made of the Future. It features Alvin Blank, a man who travels to the future and procures an artificial wife. Al Feldstein’s signature appears on this tale from 1951, twenty-three years before the first issue of OMAC!

This is a great find. It sure seems like Kirby was influenced by this story. Did you learn about this just from reading the two comics?

Yes, I discovered this connection between Kirby’s OMAC and the EC Comics story quite accidentally. But there’s no denying the last panel of page 6: “I’m Alvin… Alvin Blank!” We see a lot of golden and silver age ideas/characters reworked in the bronze age, but this was news to me.
