Spider-man jumps without a parachute into the Savage Land, where he and Ka-zar take on the evil Stegron and a herd of stampeding dinos! Later, the dinosaurs fly to New York to bring chaos to the streets. And who should drop in but the Black Panther?! With art by Gil Kane and a guest appearance by Dr. Curtis “The Lizard” Connors, this two-part dino extrvaganza has been one of our very favorites for as long as we can remember! Loved the artwork of Gil Kane on this one. Never been a fan of Len Wein’s writing though. And you can’t go wrong with Stegron!

This was probably the comic book that cemented my lifelong love affair with the medium, due in no small part to the fact that it (and its sequel) came to me circa 1980 in the over-sized Marvel Treasury edition. Even if it feels quite dated now that I’m 45, this story basically defined “awesome” and permanently burned it on my 7-year-old brain. I never really recovered from it.
The classic Stegron theme was revisited in 2006 with more sophisticated Clayton Crain artwork: https://marswillsendnomore.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/spider-man-clayton-crain/
It’s clear that the reptilian agenda must always include world domination.
